November 15 and 16

This November we investigated how humans use the wilderness to serve our desires and needs. We explored two unique hiking areas: Lemon Creek Trail and Treadwell Ditch Trail.

View photos of Monday's trip to Lemon Creek Trail! After exploring the trail and building natural shelters, we headed inside to defrost, brush up on the essential principals of hiking, learn the basics of fish anatomy, and create our own fish print t-shirts.

View photos of Tuesday's trip to Treadwell Ditch Trail! Our group kept up a brisk hiking pace to stave off the chill of the Taku winds. After hiking and outdoor games, we warmed up inside at the Alaska State Museum's Alaskan Games exhibit.

We snowshoed, played nature-inspired outdoor games, and learned how to build a fire (it was hard work!) at the trails near the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center. View photos.

March 25

We were based at Eaglecrest again. This time we had two groups: a backcountry skills group and and snowshoe/animal tracking group. After a morning of separate group activities, we all met up at the lodge to make ice cream with Rich Mattson from DIPACCheck out pictures from the Snowshoe/Animal Tracking group and ice-cream making.

April 25

We set out on the trail at the very end of North Douglas and had a fantastic day of beach-hopping and tide-pooling while we searched for the sun! View photos.
