Community Greenhouses Coming to Juneau Soon!

Turning the Tides: Juneau grassroots environmental non-profit, has a new goal to create a number of large community greenhouses here in town. A site has been identified at the landfill, in hopes to increase our food security and sustainability.

Next week permaculture instructor and futurist Albert Bates will be here to talk with local residents at several events. Check out our blog for more information on these events.

First: An informal meet-up to brainstorm with Albert about permaculture, biochar and community greenhouses in room 110 at the Bill Ray Center on Tuesday, May 29, at noon.

Tentative: If we are able to obtain permission from Waste Management, some of us will meet at the landfill at ten AM to walk the site with Albert. If this interests you please check in at 789-0449 , and go/no go information will be on the answering machine when we have an answer.

We only have the Bill Ray room until 2 PM but we might continue the conversation at the Silverbow....

Second: "Juneau 2030: Carbon Negative, Non-Nuclear and Prospering in De-Growth" on Tuesday, May 29 at 7 PM at UAS Egan Lecture Hall (EG room 112), sponsored by UAS.  There will be a chance to ask questions after Albert's presentation.

Third:  "Energy Security Without Going Broke, Destroying the Climate or Militarizing the Arctic Ocean" at KTOO studios on Wednesday, May 30 at 5 PM, sponsored by Juneau World Affairs Council. Many attendees will then adjourn to Zen for further discussion.

All events are free and open to the public. Turning the Tides welcomes donations, which are fully tax-deductible, and seeks volunteers and members. Please come to one or more of these events, and bring your enthusiasm! And PLEASE forward this information to your friends and your "green" groups.
