Gear and Clothing for your six-day adventure to

Prince William Sound

 First Layer of Clothing

___ 2 pairs of liner socks (thin wool or synthetic)

___ A few pairs of underwear (synthetic better than cotton)

___ 1-2 long underwear bottoms (Capilene, Polypro, Lifa, Thermax…)

___ 1-2 long sleeve underwear tops (same material)

 

Mid Layer

___ 1 pr. Nylon shorts

___ 1 pr. Pants (wool, fleece, or supplex zip-off leg style)

___ 2 lightweight shirts (1 short sleeve, 1 long, nylon, Coolmax)

___ 1 wool sweater or fleece jacket (both if you get cold easy)

 

Outer layer

___ 3-4 pr. thick socks (like Smart wool or synthetic)

___ 1 pr. Rain/windpants (like rubber bibs or gore-tex pants)

___ 1 rain/windjacket (rubber, gore-tex, or paddling jacket)

___ 2 hats (1 warm wool and 1 brimmed hat either baseball/sun cap/gore-tex)

___ 1 pr. gloves for paddling (rubber worn over liners, or neoprene alone)

___ 1 pr. warm gloves for camp (wool or synthetic)

___ 1 pr. Rubber boots 16” tall (Servus “Xtra Tuff” neoprene or equivalent)

___ 1 pr. extra felt insoles for rubber boots (for when the others get wet)

___ 1 pr. Sandals (substitute for rubber boots if you add neoprene socks)

___ 1 pr. Hiking boots (optional—most people just wear the rubber boots)

 

Other gear

___ 1 sleeping bag (synthetic fill only, good to + 20 degrees) **You may rent a sleeping bag from us if you like, but you will be charged a dry-cleaning fee!**

___ Optional 1 sleeping pad (Thermarest, or closed cell foam)

___ 1 pr. Ear plugs (for the noisy tent partner)

___ 1 or 2 water bottles (liter or quart)

___ 1 mug, 12 oz. thermally insulated

___ 1 pr. Sunglasses

___ 1 tube sunscreen (high SPF) and lip balm

___ 1 bag toiletries (should fit in a quart size ziplock bag or equivalent)

___ 1 small flashlight or headlamp

___ 1 small knife or multi-use tool

___ Camera in watertight case (pelicase 1050, 1120, or equivalent)

___ Compact Binoculars (Highly recommended, waterproof is best)

___ Reading and writing materials, journal (we’ll have many field guide books)

 

Luggage 

___ 1 duffel (12x30” or 16x36” with heavy trash bag liner, or big dry bag)

___ 1 day pack for hiking around

___ 2 dry bags (~8-10” x 12-16” for kayaking, to store extra clothes, lunch…)

___ The USFS and outfitters can assist with dry bags for those who don’t have them.
